Cameron Parish

I took these pictures for friends and family starting a few days after hurricane Rita made land fall. Someone told me about a blog by Milo Nickel, after checking out the wonderful job he did in creating this blog, I decided to do the same. All of the pictures were taken in Cameron Parish around Creole, Little Chenier, Oak Grove and the Sweet Lake Area. The pictures are overwhelming but they do not capture the magnitude of the total devastation of lower Cameron Parish. Many people have lost a lot including myself, some have lost everything. The people of Cameron Parish are unlike any other, everyone knows each other, it’s like and big extended family. The stress of being apart, living in travel trailers and dealing with insurance companies etc… has taken its toll. The people of Cameron know adversity they’ve been through it before with Hurricane Audry and they’ll do it again with Rita. They will be back!

You can make the pictures larger by clicking on them.

Kevin,

Great photos. I had a mini camp on Little Chenier south of Amos Vincent's house. All is lost. Amos' son Stafford is on my west side and has a house from East Creole Highway in his pasteur. Amos is dead and his oldest son was living in the house before Rita.

This meeting will be to discuss the sewage. Also to vote on changeing the name of Holly Beach to Little Destin and to stop campers , RV parks and trailers from coming in.

So Sad,
Please if you love Holly Beach its open to the public. Land owners bring your papers.
